  • The Community

    The community is largely residential with agriculture as the major socio-economic base for the district, along with other retail and commercial activities.  Residents are also employed in professional and industrial enterprises in the Jamestown area.  

    Many educational and cultural opportunities are present in Chautauqua County.  The Frewsburg Central School District is approximately 35 miles from the campus of the State University College at Fredonia and 7 miles from Jamestown Community College and the Jamestown Business College.  The world famous Chautauqua Institution, a center for theater, dance, concerts, and other cultural activities, is located on the shores of beautiful Chautauqua Lake just 24 miles away.  The Roger Tory Peterson Institute, the Reg Lenna Civic Center, and the Lucille Ball Little Theater, located in Jamestown, all offer entertainment, theatre, and outstanding educational and environmental exhibits.  

    Year-round recreation abounds throughout the Frewsburg area.  The area is noted for its abundant recreational facilities with excellent golf courses, ski resorts, state parks, snowmobiling, and boating opportunities. along with a variety of areas suitable for hiking and horseback riding.  The district is within close proximity to the beautiful resort areas of both Chautauqua Lake and Lake Erie.  Hunting and fishing are a favorite pastime for many of the residents.  For the golf enthusiasts, the Peek'n Peak Golf and ski Resort is located in nearby Findley Lake, Holiday Valley Golf and Ski Resort is a short distance away in Ellicottville.  For those camping and hiking enthusiasts, Allegany State Park is in very close proximity.  

    The Frewsburg Central School District is situated near Route 86 (Southern Tier Expressway) and easily accessible to the New York State Thruway making shopping, educational, cultural, and sports events in the metropolitan of Buffalo and Erie, PA very convenient.  Jamestown also has a small county airport that offers commuter service to Pittsburgh.  

    All of this combines to provide the Frewsburg Central School District residents with an excellent quality of life at a moderate cost of living.
