The Position
The Board of Education seeks a passionate and creative administrator to assume the helm of Superintendent of Schools for the Frewsburg Central School District following the retirement of Superintendent Shelly O'Boyle.
The role of the Superintendent is crucial to the success of our school district. As the leader of an excellent and dedicated staff, the Superintendent fosters enthusiasm for learning and individual responsibility. As the District's spokesperson, the Superintendent communicates the priorities and goals of the Board of Education to the community. As the Chief Executive Officer, the Superintendent works intimately with the Board to guide decisions, implement policies, and outline goals, opportunities, and long-term plans.
The focal point for the Superintendent is to provide outstanding leadership to maintain the strongest educational program within the financial capabilities of the community.
Candidate Profile
The Frewsburg Central School Board of Education seeks a visionary leader who is deeply committed to the success of all students. This outstanding educator will have had clear success bringing together a rural school community in a shared vision of excellence. They will be an exceptional communicator and advocate for students. The Board seeks a visible and skilled leader, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and innovation. The candidate’s authentic, transparent communication, collaborative leadership, and personal integrity will elevate the climate and culture of the District and community. Candidates with an outstanding career record engaging faculty, staff, and community are encouraged to apply.
Depending upon a candidate’s background and experience, the Board is prepared to offer a three-year contract with a salary of up to $165,000 and a commensurate benefit package. All applicants must possess or be eligible for

The School District
The Frewsburg Central School District serves more than 700 pre-K-12 students at one elementary school and a combined middle/high school. The District is distinguished by the quality of people who are associated with the schools. Frewsburg has a knowledgeable, skilled, and veteran instructional staff. Strong parent participation is considered essential to maintaining an environment for effective learning.
The instructional program is well articulated and utilizes up-to-date teaching techniques, including extensive use of technology at all levels. High-caliber, comprehensive, and successful educational programs provide the foundation for the quality reflected in Frewsburg's record of student achievement. The administration and staff are actively involved in the New York Standards initiatives.
In conjunction with SUNY Jamestown Community College, the District offers many college-level courses to eligible high school students. Frewsburg students are able to graduate from high school with up to 48 college credits attained. Frewsburg also utilizes a number of distance learning courses to provide additional learning opportunities to its students.
The District enjoys strong community support for its academic and extra-curricular programs. Activities for students include an extensive middle and high school sports program as well as outstanding music and drama offerings.
The Board of Education and the administration continually advocate for shared services. Frewsburg CSD is a component school district of Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, and students participate in Career & Technical Education, Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH), Special Education, and Alternative Education programs.

The Community
The hamlet of Frewsburg lies six miles southeast of the city of Jamestown in beautiful Western New York. The District encompasses the towns of Carroll, Poland, Busti, South Valley, and Kiantone. It covers 75 square miles and has a population of 4,615 according to 2021 data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Various local events celebrate the area's history and agricultural heritage, including the Frewsburg Gala Days, Italian and Scandinavian festivals, and the Chautauqua County Fair. Many cultural and educational opportunities are also available to residents. The Audubon Community Nature Center has programs and events year-round, with over five miles of trails through a 570-acre wetland preserve. The Martz-Kohl Observatory houses one of the largest public robotic telescopes in the Northeastern United States. The world-famous Chautauqua Institution – a center for theater, dance, and concerts – is located within half an hour. The National Comedy Center in Jamestown brings in famous entertainers from across the country. Other theatrical and environmental exhibits are just a short drive away.
The region offers excellent parks, such as Erlandson Overview Park and nearby Allegany State Park. Canoeing and boating opportunities are available on the Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail, Chautauqua Lake, and the Allegheny Reservoir. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, and horseback riding are also favorite pastimes for many Frewsburg residents.
The Frewsburg community is within easy driving distance of Erie, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Toronto for sports, cultural activities, and shopping. All of this combines to provide Frewsburg Central School District residents with an excellent quality of life at a moderate cost of living.
