Music Class- The overture to a great musical adventure!

  • Mrs. Meerdink Greetings!  I will be your guide as we begin this great adventure called....Music!  My name is Mrs. Meerdink.  Growing up, I had two ideas for a career.  I wanted to be a Pediatric Cardiologist or an ELA Teacher.  When I was in 9th grade, I borrowed my sister's clarinet (without asking....when no one was home.......) and taught myself to play.  I had to be sneaky because my parents told me I was too old to start taking up an instrument (we couldn't afford an instrument when I was in 5th grade).  I loved it!  I started playing in October and surprised my family by playing a solo in church for Christmas.  I was asked to play on the worship team and have played the clarinet ever since.  When I went to JCC, a professor suggested going to Fredonia for Music Education.  I did!  I decided I was going to be a band teacher.  For part of my training I had to take a class in Elementary General Music and I loved every minute of it.  I knew that was what I was going to do for the rest of my life.  The last 16 years teaching elementary music at Frewsburg has been a great adventure!  One lesson I have learned: find what you like and do it!
