Mrs. Burns

Welcome to Room 212 English and Communications!

My name is Mrs. Burns, and I have been teaching grades 7 to the college level for over 20 years. I attended Buffalo State College in Buffalo, NY, where I was born, to earn a BS in Broadcasting, a BS in English Education, and a MS in Education in English. I was raised in the Town of Tonawanda and graduated from Kenmore East High School. I have been teaching my entire life since I am the oldest child of five, I used to babysit many children in the neighborhood growing up, and insisted on being the teacher when I played school with my siblings and friends. My first official teaching position was at Lewiston-Porter High School until my husband and I moved with our two kids to York, Pennsylvania, for his job. At that time we chose for me to be a stay-at-home mom. After two years in York, we moved our family to Wadsworth, Ohio. Once my son was in first grade, I accepted a position with Wooster High School as a part-time Special Ed Small Group Instructor, teaching mostly remedial English. The second year at Wooster, I was offered a full-time position teaching English and Humanities. However, my husband's work moved us, once again, to here in Chautauqua County, where he is still employed at eFurniture Solutions, Bush Industries, in Falconer. We settled in Lakewood, where our two children, Maggie and Brian, graduated from Southwestern High School. Maggie graduated Cum Laude in Spring 2020 from Penn State the Behrend in Erie, PA, with dual degrees in Marketing and Management Information Systems. She is employed at eFurniture Solutions with Bush Industries. Brian is entering his senior year, also at Penn State Behrend, majoring in both Interdisciplinary Business and Engineering and Finance. He will graduate this year in May 2022. I continue to teach here at Frewsburg Middle/High School where I was originally hired as a substitute in Winter of 2009, and then as a part-time English teacher. I worked at JCC as an instructor until gladly taking a full time job for FCS! I love being a Bear, teaching English and communications, and advising the student newspaper. There is nothing better than wearing the blue and gold with a paw print! Every year my favorite student list grows and fills my heart because all my students are my favorites, and I often say,"Once you're my student, you're always my student, and together we are Bear strong"! Go Bears!
