Program Goals and Objectives

  • Physical Education is a sequential educational program based on physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive, and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.  The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. 


    As the result of a quality K-12 physical education experience, students will:


    -          demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns

    -          apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance

    -          demonstrate the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness

    -          exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others

    -          recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction

    To pursue a lifetime of healthful physical activity, a physically literate individual:

    -          Has learned the skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities.

    -          Knows the implications of and the benefits from involvement in various types of physical activities.

    -          Participates regularly in physical activity.

    -          Is physically fit.

    -          Values physical activity and its contributions to a healthful lifestyle.


    Grades K-2

    • Developmental games
    • Body/spatial awareness activities
    • Rhythm/fundamental movement skills
    • Fundamental motor and loco-motor activities
    • The development of manipulative and non-manipulative skills
    • Introduction of major components of physical fitness and healthy bodies

    Grades 3-6

    • Fundamental motor and loco-motor activities
    • Manipulative activities that involve the major components of life-long physical fitness
    • Demonstrating proper social skills in all activities
    • Apply physical activities in a real life setting
    • Organizational activities that enable participation in group and team activities
    • Upon entering 7th grade our hope is that students have learned how to be responsible, healthy students who continue activities which promote the components of life-long physical fitness
